Tunes: Review Liam Finn’s FOMO

By Sarah Hoyles

Artist: Liam Finn

Album: FOMO (stands for Fear Of Missing Out)

Release Date: June 21, 2011

Label: Yep Rock Records

Hometown: Born in Melbourne, Australia but moved to Auckland, New Zealand as a kid.

Sounds like: The melodic ways of Death Cab for Cutie and Sloan mixed with Paul Simon’s quirky, poppy sounds and a little rock edge of the Black Keys

Oddities: His dad is pop musician Neil Finn (of Split Enz and Crowded House)

Listen before you buy (Myspace)

What my ears hear: I won’t get tired of this album any time soon as the songs are unpredictable. The songwriting takes sudden turns that I didn’t see coming but makes me enjoy the ride all the more. The album is cohesive but not all one note, figuratively not literally, obviously.
